“I can’t think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself” - Emma Stone
My generation is in crisis. We are looking to make sense of the world, to have a purpose, to know who we are and yet we’ve never learnt how to do that.
Instead, we’ve learnt that is it "normal" to work the 9-5 life, get married, have kids, a dog, a house, and go on holidays. The problem is that these things may not fulfil us. There is a craving for something more. We are desperately trying to make sense of our life and we run after the things we think give us a purpose only to get disappointed when we get it and realise it still doesn’t make sense.
We want a job, we get it, then we realise "damn… it doesn’t fulfil me. Why am I doing this?" so we go for the next one… and the next one… and the next one… never stopping.
We get to travel like never before. We go backpacking around the world. We visit countless cities, restaurants, monuments, and when we go back home, there is still this hole inside of us. Our problems have followed us abroad.
We go through our life in a circle. Stuck, disappointed, eventually settling down for a job that is “fine, because at least I have a good salary”. Yet nothing makes sense. The only thing that makes sense is that we are proud of how many jobs, objects, holidays, etc. we have. We forget that all these things are keeping us distracted from finding our purpose.
If we want to find our purpose, we need to look inside. When we are able to answer the two fundamental questions:
Who am I?
What do I want to achieve?
and have the courage to build a life around the answers, that is when we create our purpose.
When we stop listening to others, comparing ourselves and envying them we have space to listen to our heart, look at what we do, and go for it. Our intuition and our body are powerful guides.
We live in a world where we are bombarded with external knowledge. No wonder we are lost and unhappy. We need to look inside and make sense of what is inside. This is hard work, scary, confusing, tiring but SO REWARDING. This makes us truly alive.
This makes us build our identity, our uniqueness. When we are true to ourselves, the world becomes a better place. From our unique identity we are able to create so much beauty. When we give ourselves permission to do what feels good, we build our identity. When we have fun, we build our identity. Life is given to us for enjoyment, not for being a martyr. We are allowed to be ourselves, have fun and be happy. This makes the world a better place. When we discover the magic inside of us, the world becomes a better place. When we exploit our potential, the world becomes a better place.
When we follow the path of least resistance, we make our life easy and enjoyable. Suddenly, we feel that we are able to achieve our goals. Our self-confidence increases and our path appears. We become clear and focus on our next steps. Our path makes total sense.
We get to have an impact on many lives.
We are able to create beauty in the world.
We are able to create magic.
What’s one thing you can do today to have fun? Just go and do it NOW.
